Software Engineering
The Helix RDS Software Engineering team support the software requirements of every engineeering discipline within the company: Production Technology, Production Chemistry, Geomechanics, Reservoir Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, and Drilling.
The bulk of our software is for internal use, differentiating HelixRDS from our competitors by our ability to rapidly develop new niche products where required, or to apply our extensive suite of bespoke applications. The scopes of these applications are diverse and range from Integrated Asset Management and Equipment/System Modelling, to the integration of 3rd party software with pre- and post-processors. The main software tools are:
- ESPmap: Plots ESP (Electro-submersible pumps) in-situ operating point on ESP head curve.
- ESP DumpFlood: Helps ascertain whether an ESP can reinject produced water from a well back into the reservoir.
- GassyESP: A parallel wellflow simulator for gassy ESP systems.
- ESP DeadHead: Models deadhead for different ESP profiles.
- HeliJet: Models well performance using jetpump artificial lift.
- HeliSand and HeliSand3D: Predicts sand production.
- StressPolygon: An in-situ stress regime analysis tool.
- HeliScal and Kinetic HeliScal: Scale prediction.
- HeliCor: Corrosion and erosion prediction.
- HeliP-Cor: A pressure correction tool.
- HeliTSA: A post-processor for WellCat tubing stress analyses.
- GA_Optimiser: A genetic algorithm-based optimiser dll for use within any COM compliant programming tool but specifically within MS Excel.
- VirtualCalliper: Predicts tubing failure without the expense of stopping production and running a calliper.
- GFU: A gas flowmeter uncertainty model.
- DataSort: Imports and combines multiple time-stamped data sources for graphical analysis.
- DevSurvey: Deviation survey file manipulation.
- PTL Tool: A production technical limits spreadsheet utilising PROSPER (by Petroleum Experts).
- Many OpenServer Applications: Linking Petroleum Experts software (Resolve, GAP, Prosper, Mbal, PVT, Reveal) with other applications/addins (HySys, Excel, Crystal Ball, Excel Solver, Excel GoalSeek, bespoke VisualBasic and .Net, Reservoir simulators).
- Stinger: A tool to increase production in horizontal wells by using a stinger to control the draw down pressure. Integrates with PROSPER.
- CGC: Continuous gas circulation model.
While we do not currently offer applications for re-sale, we do develop bespoke software packages for clients who then take part ownership. A cross-section of these programs include:
- IAM Control: Pre-processor for "GAP" (by Petroleum Experts), pre-processsor for client-bespoke reservoir simulator, pre-, post-, and realtime processor for "RESOLVE" (by Petroleum Experts) - Providing full control over multiple production prediction scenarios.
- IAM Ready: Graphical re-allocation tool and pre-processor for "MBal" (by Petroleum Experts).
- IAM Diagnostics: Post-processor for "GAP" models for graphical performance representation to facilitate problem diagnosis.
- LogRepair: Employing fuzzy logic techniques to quality check and repair log data.
- Training games: Oil field production technology, gas field production technology, and surveillance planning training games.
- Risk management.
Currently our team are developing:
- HeliRock: A geomechanical modelling and calibration package. Beta version V1.01 is currently being tested in parallel with the existing system on a "live" project and results to date are encouraging. This tool is replacing a combination of multiple 3rd party applications and spreadsheets and will streamline this type of work and reduce licence fees.
- AutoSol: This program automates a 3rd Party 8-bit DOS program ("Solmineq") used by our Production Chemistry department to facilitate running multiple cases and sensitivities from within a Windows user interface. It has successsfully undergone beta-testing, but some additional functionality has recently been added which has yet to be tested. The projected production release date is 4th August 2008. The estimated time savings made by using this tool are in the order of 400%, and, as these jobs tended to take from 5 to 8 days, this is a significant saving.
- HeliCast: Probabalistic production forecasting. This was first released for use by a client on 28th May 2008. Feedback compilation and assessment are ongoing, but initial indications are good.
Helix RDS retain the right to use all of the above mentioned applications and tools for any new or existing project work that may benefit from them. |
